The Canterbaby Club: Mother’s Day Bake & Play

Celebrate Mother’s Day with The Canterbaby Club’s Bake & Play on Monday, 19 May at Riverside Kitchen — a fun, hands-on cookie baking morning for mums and little ones, complete with crafts, mimosas, goodie bags, and professional photos

Let’s be honest — Mother’s Day can feel like just another busy day. You’re smiling through cold tea, tidying up after the kids’ “surprise” breakfast, and somehow still on laundry duty. But not this time.

We’re doing Mother’s Day a little later, but we’re doing it right.

The Canterbaby Club’s Mother’s Day Bake & Play is happening on Monday, 19 May, from 10 AM to 12 PM at the gorgeous Riverside Kitchen. And honestly? It’s the kind of morning we all need: fun, a little fancy, and zero cleanup at home.

TLDR:

Where: Riverside Kitchen, Upstairs Riverside Market, Christchurch Central City
When: Monday, 19 May, 10 AM – 12 PM

What to expect: We’ve teamed up with the lovely crew at Riverside Kitchen for a hands-on cookie baking session just for you and your little one. While the cookies bake, the kids will dive into crafts from The Make Company (because keeping toddlers busy is half the battle). Expect a mimosa on arrival, a grazing table loaded with treats, and a relaxed vibe where babies and siblings are welcome — we’ve even set up a playpen so you don’t have to juggle childcare. Plus, you’ll head home with a goodie bag and the feel-good bonus that 10% of ticket proceeds go to Bellyful Christchurch, helping families with young kids who could use a hand.

Here’s what to expect from our Mother’s Day Canterbaby Club event:

So, what’s the plan?

You and your little one (think toddler age or bigger — the kind who can stand at the bench and get their hands into the dough) will roll up your sleeves for a cookie baking class. Expect giggles, mess, and a whole lot of floury hands — but none of it happening in your kitchen.

While the cookies bake, the kids will jump into crafts thanks to The Make Company — because let’s face it, toddlers don’t exactly do “patiently wait.” And for us mums? There’s a mimosa on arrival and a grazing table packed with delicious bites.

Bringing a younger sibling? No stress. There’s a playpen set up so they can nap or play while you enjoy yourself.

A space made for mums, by mums

This isn’t one of those events where you feel awkward if your kid melts down or you need to breastfeed mid-session. We know what it’s like. You’re welcome to rock the pram, juggle the snacks, sip your coffee while bouncing a baby on your hip — whatever works. This is a space where you can just be, no judgment, no pressure.

Giving Back

nook NZ and The Canterbaby Club is proud to donate 10 per cent of ticket proceeds to Bellyful Christchurch, a local charity delivering meals to families with newborns or young children who need support. You’ll also head home with a lovely goodie bag to make the day feel extra special.

What’s included?

We’re still finalising a few details behind the scenes, but here’s what your ticket will definitely include…

  • The cookie baking session
  • Kids’ crafts with The Make Company
  • Mimosa on arrival (yes, please)
  • Filter coffee, tea and a grazing table to nibble on
  • A goodie bag to take home
  • Playpen space for babies/siblings
  • Plus, 10% of every ticket goes to Bellyful Christchurch, helping deliver meals to local families with newborns or young kids who need a hand.

Bringing more than one budding baker? Extra baking-age children are $20 per additional child.

Got a younger baby or toddler in tow who’s not baking? No extra charge — we’ll have a playpen set up so they can hang out while you enjoy the morning.

Cute snaps

We’re also bringing back the fabulous Gemma from Love, Gem Photography, to capture all the magic (and the mayhem). She’ll be there snapping the flour-dusted noses, sticky little fingers, and all those sweet mum-and-bub moments. You’ll even have the chance to grab a gorgeous individual portrait of you and your little one — and afterwards, you can purchase your favourites at a discounted rate.

How to grab your spot

There are only 16 adult spaces total, so you’ll want to be quick. Tickets go live on Saturday, 10 May at 8 AM. Set your alarm, send a group chat to the mum friends, and get ready for a Mother’s Day that’s more cute than chaotic.

We can’t wait to see you there!
