The Wood Collective

Description
The Wood Collective creates wooden pieces that last. Founded by parents who wanted better toys for their children, they craft items that encourage real play rather than adding to the toy pile. Every piece comes from their Christchurch-based workshop, made from local timber by craftspeople who care about what they’re building. They follow Montessori principles – simple designs that let children explore and learn at their own pace.
Their products grow with families. A climbing frame becomes a reading nook seating. A play kitchen stays interesting for years. Everything’s built to handle daily use and still look good in your living room. They focus on open-ended play – the kind where kids use their imagination instead of following instructions. Less plastic, more wood. Less noise, more creativity.
What they make:
- Montessori bookshelves and learning materials
- Pikler climbing frames and movement toys
- Outdoor sandpits and mud kitchens
- Educational centre furniture
- Custom children’s name plates
Made slowly in New Zealand. Built to last generations.
