With its stunning views over Christchurch and a menu that caters to both adults and kids, Arlo in Cashmere is quickly becoming a local favourite. Whether you’re there for a family outing or a quiet date night, this spot has something for everyone.
nook NZ’s family-friendly finds: Arlo in Cashmere
If you’re after a meal with a view, the newly opened Arlo in the Cashmere Hills ticks all the boxes. Imagine a sunny but chilly day (or evening), Christchurch stretched out below, and snow-topped mountains in the background – it’s almost enough to make you forget you’re only a few minutes from town.

Naturally, we went for the pizza (when in Rome…or in this case, Cashmere), and it did not disappoint. The bases are a delicious Italian style and just the right amount of chewy. The kids’ menu is a win for a family outing, offering pasta or a pizza with topping choices of cheese, tomato, mushrooms and ham – always a tough decision for a 3-year-old. There’s also a classic option of fries for the fussiest eaters.

Arlo’s got high chairs for the smallest ones and a lovely, stylish interior, plus a few covered outdoor tables for some fresh air. Also worth noting, it’s a fabulous date spot if you want to experience it without the delightful chaos of children – especially with the longer summer evenings to enjoy the view.

And if you’re just popping in for a coffee or a dessert, they’ve got you covered there too (for the afternoon that is, they open at midday). This spot is worth the trip for the pizza and the views, and seems to be popular with locals already. We went after a trip to Cashmere playground by the river below – perfect Sunday outing!
