Small group training session at Prebbleton gym for mums

Your new community
This isn’t your standard gym. It’s a welcoming, no-judgement zone where mums come together, lift heavy things, laugh at the chaos, and leave feeling like superheroes. The vibe is relaxed but purposeful – you’re here to move, feel strong, and reconnect with yourself. Classes are capped at four people, so you get plenty of attention from Julia-Rose, the owner and personal trainer extraordinaire, without paying for private sessions.

Julia knows what it’s like to balance motherhood with maintaining your own well-being. She’s built the home studio for mums, by a mum, and it shows in everything from the playpen for little ones to the flexible scheduling that actually works with a busy life.

The studio experience
Nestled in Prebbleton, the studio is spacious, fully equipped, and surprisingly fun. Barbells, dumbbells, plyometric tools, cardio machines, suspension straps – whatever your workout fantasy, it’s here. There’s also outdoor space for the kids to burn off energy or even join in the action if they fancy. Our three-week trial let us experience the full spectrum of classes: Strong, Tone, Align, Hybrid, HIIT, and Glute Lab. Each session lasts 45 minutes – long enough to feel like a proper workout, short enough to fit between naps or school runs.

Classes are designed to challenge at any fitness level. Whether you’re easing back into exercise after pregnancy or hunting for a place to lift seriously heavy things, there’s a session to suit. And while some classes are high-intensity, there’s always a low-impact option if you need it.

PT without the price tag
All classes are semi-private, run in six-week blocks to make sure you see results, and personalised to your goals. You feel like you have a trainer in your corner – because you do – but without the intimidating one-on-one cost. And the best bit? You can bring your kids along. There’s a playpen, toys, blankets, and a safe yard for older kids to kick a ball around. Extra bonus: the resident chickens are very friendly and accept a treat or two from tiny visitors.

Classes we loved

  • Tone – beginner-friendly full-body strength without the barbells. Perfect to ease back in.
  • Strong – lifts, squats, presses, and deadlifts for when you’re ready to push yourself.
  • Align – Pilates-inspired, core and mobility focused, great for posture and everyday strength.
  • Hybrid – a mix of HIIT, strength, and stability, keeps your brain guessing and body moving.
  • HIIT – fast, sweaty, and energising, brilliant for burning off stress.
  • Glute Lab – targeted lower-body work to fire up those glutes. Serious booty gains.

Membership options
Whether you want unlimited classes for 12 weeks or 6 months, a few sessions a week, or a casual drop-in, the memberships are flexible. You can even pause if life gets in the way. Everything is booked via a slick app, so no faffing around.

The verdict
After three weeks of trialling classes, we left feeling stronger, more energised, and strangely addicted to the atmosphere. The community vibe is real – you’ll find yourself cheering on fellow mums, swapping stories, holding and entertaining the kiddos while mums smash their PB, and maybe even sharing a coffee post-session. This is a gym where motherhood is celebrated, strength is built, and little humans are always welcome.

If you’re a mum in Selwyn (or beyond!) looking to reclaim some time for yourself, gain strength, and join a supportive tribe, Mamas Who Move Selwyn is worth a visit. Bring the kids, bring your trainers, and prepare to leave a bit taller – mentally and physically.

Trial offer: $99 for three weeks of unlimited classes…which is an absolute steal! Four mamas per session, plenty of parking, flexible scheduling, and a community that totally gets it.
