Introducing Christchurch Dad’s Stroller Club: A New Community for Dads

A club for dads, built by dads. Parenting can feel like a solo mission, but it doesn’t have to be. Christchurch Dad’s Stroller Club is here to bring dads together—one stroll, one coffee, and one meltdown at a time.

Fatherhood—it’s a wild ride. One minute you’re expertly assembling a cot (with only minor swearing), and the next, you’re deep in the trenches of nappy blowouts and teething meltdowns. But amidst the chaos, there’s something that often gets overlooked: dads need a village too. That’s exactly why MJ, local dad, content creator at @dadbehavior, and proud father to Arthur (with baby number two on the way), has launched the Christchurch Dad’s Stroller Club—a group designed for fathers to connect, get outdoors, and support each other on this parenting journey.

Why MJ Started the Club

MJ noticed something missing in Christchurch’s parenting scene. “There are so many amazing groups and activities for mums, but not a lot that specifically caters to dads,” he explains. “And when you’re the one taking the kids out during the day, it can feel a bit isolating. I wanted to change that.”

The Christchurch Dad’s Stroller Club is here to fill that gap, creating a space where dads—whether new, seasoned, or expecting—can come together, get some fresh air, and share the highs (and occasional disasters) of parenting.

The Official Launch Event: Saturday 29 March at The Welder

To kick things off, MJ is hosting a free launch event on Saturday 29 March at The Welder—the perfect laid-back spot to bring the kids, grab a coffee, and meet other dads.

Here’s what’s lined up:

  • Soft Play by Rug Rats NZ – A safe and fun setup for little ones (0-5 years) to keep them entertained while dads chat.
  • Grizzly Baked Goods – Because good coffee and pastries are essential dad fuel (this will be the only cost on the day). Grab a “Grizzly Dad Deal” which includes a coffee and any pastry for $9.
  • Goodie Bags – Packed with treats from Treasures and other great brands (limited supply—so get in quick!).
  • Giveaways – be in with the chance to win an Edwards & Co Stroller and goodies from Treasures

It’s casual, welcoming, and zero pressure—just turn up, meet some like-minded dads, and have a good time.

What’s Next?

The Christchurch Dad’s Stroller Club isn’t just a one-off event. Moving forward, the group will hold fortnightly or monthly meetups where dads can gather, go for a stroll with their little ones, and finish up at a park or café for a relaxed hangout. It’s about fresh air, real talk, and community—because let’s be honest, some days, you just need to vent to someone who also knows the pain of stepping on a rogue piece of Duplo.

Beyond the regular meetups, MJ has big plans: quarterly events with guest speakers and practical sessions on topics like starting solids, sleep, and potty training—things dads want to be involved in but often don’t have a space to discuss.

The best part? It’s completely free to attend—just reserve a ticket here to the launch event to secure your spot.

So, dads of Christchurch, this one’s for you. Whether you’re rocking a pram, wrangling a toddler, or prepping for your firstborn, come along and be part of something special. You don’t have to do this parenting thing alone—and now, you don’t have to walk it alone either.

Follow MJ on Instagram here, and stay tuned—we’ll soon be working with him on some fun dad-focused content!
