When you think of Hong Kong, you might picture the glittering skyline, the neon lights, and the packed, noisy streets. But what’s really hard to picture is navigating all of that with two kids in tow, a pram, and a constant battle for the one available lift. This is where the Edwards & Co Olive Double Pram truly shone for us.

Edwards & Co Olive Double Pram in Hong Kong

Travelling with two young kids through the crowded streets of Hong Kong might sound like a challenge, but with the Edwards & Co Olive Double Pram, it was a smooth ride. Here’s why:

The Olive Double, designed by the Kiwi-owned Edwards & Co, might not be marketed as a travel pram, but after using it in Hong Kong, we can’t imagine taking a family trip without it. It’s lightweight, compact, and sleek – everything you need for a family outing in a city where space is at a premium, and crowds are ever-present.

Hong Kong’s streets are narrow and bustling, and the city’s maze of MTR trains, taxis, and walkways are anything but pram-friendly. Yet, this double pram handled it all with ease. While there’s no escaping the crowded streets (or that occasional desperate search for an elusive lift), the Olive’s slimline design and same footprint whether used as a double or single meant it was no wider than a standard pram. And, trust us, this makes a massive difference in a city where every inch counts. We found ourselves squeezing through crowded shopping malls, dodging pedestrians, and navigating tiny alleys – all while keeping both kids secure.

The true test came when we jumped in and out of taxis. Hong Kong’s taxis, though efficient, aren’t always the most spacious (especially when you’re toting around double the baby gear). The Olive’s super compact fold, along with its easy-to-remove seats, meant we could get in and out of taxis in a flash, even when the driver insisted we “pop the boot” with no time to spare. No fiddling around, just quick, efficient packing – a small but game-changing win when travelling with little ones.

Speaking of lifts – they’re few and far between in Hong Kong, and they’re always occupied. So, having a pram that’s light enough to carry up stairs is a serious bonus. At just 12.7kg as a single pram, it was no problem to lift up a flight of stairs when the only lift we could find had a queue of people waiting. And when we were out and about, the Olive’s easy one-handed steering made it a breeze to push around even on crowded sidewalks, while the large, comfortable seats let our kids rest when their little feet got tired after a long walk through the city’s iconic skyline views or buzzing shopping districts.

And while Hong Kong isn’t exactly the most pram-friendly city, the Olive Double proved that even in a hectic, chaotic environment, you don’t have to compromise on comfort, functionality, or style. We took the pram everywhere – from the Star Ferry to the beaches at Repulse Bay, from the busy streets of Mong Kok to the tranquil walkways by Victoria Harbour – and it handled every terrain effortlessly. The pram’s extendable canopy was another win, keeping the kids shaded from Hong Kong’s scorching sun while we tried to navigate the city’s heat.

In terms of comfort, the Olive Double is a solid contender. Both seats recline fully, making it perfect for naps on-the-go (because let’s face it – when you’re out exploring all day, the kids are going to need their rest). On a few occasions, we were able to grab a peaceful moment ourselves while they napped, even managing a leisurely dinner later than usual in one of Hong Kong’s quieter restaurants. The big storage basket also came in handy when we couldn’t resist picking up a few things in the markets.

While Hong Kong’s tight spaces and crowded streets might make you think twice about taking a double pram, the Olive proves it can work in even the busiest and most challenging places. The compact design, combined with its versatility (whether as a double or single pram), makes it an excellent choice for parents needing to move through crowded spaces with two kids. If the Olive can tackle the streets of Hong Kong, home in Christchurch will be a breeze.

Whether you’re crossing busy flyovers, catching ferries, or navigating shopping malls, the Olive Double is the kind of pram that gives you the confidence to take on any city. And, as we’ve learned, if it works in Hong Kong, it can work anywhere.
