Valley Views Glamping: We’ve Been Coming Back for Seven Years (Here’s Why)

Valley Views makes glamping easy and fun for families who want to enjoy nature without the hassle. Our resident foodie contributor, @foodiemamanz, digs into the amazing home-cooked meals and fresh farm-to-table breakfast that make this place special for food-loving families.

My husband and I have been going to Valley Views Glamping for years now. Before we were married, whilst I was heavily pregnant, and then with our little one. Each time was more magical than the last.

You get to stay in off-the-grid glamping domes, set up beautifully inside and with even more beautiful views outside. You will be hosted by the most amazing couple, Patrick and Amber, who will make you feel so looked after and right at home.

What to know about Valley Views Glamping:

What to Pack for Valley Views Glamping

  • Charge Packs – whilst these are provided, sometimes they can be a bit finicky, so we’ve always found it great to bring our own fully charged ones.
  • WARM CLOTHES – whether it’s the middle of winter or in the full heat of summer, you will still want to bring warm clothes to sleep in and big jackets to be able to put on if you need to get up in the night. And if it is the middle of winter, bring even more warm clothes. The fires are brilliant for heating the domes, but if you don’t have someone stoking it in the middle of the night, you may wake up with a frozen nose.
  • Board Games – whilst there is cell service here (something we weren’t expecting), you want to take full advantage of there being no power and spend some quality off-screen time with your loved ones. There are a few classic games you can grab from the communal space, but we love our quirky card games.

Valley Views Glamping Food Options: Home-Cooked Meals and Fresh Breakfast

You can absolutely bring your own food, or take an hour drive to Wanaka and explore the wonderful places there, but we highly recommend booking at least one night of a home-cooked meal. My goodness, we cannot stay without doing it now! Amber is an absolute master in the kitchen, and you know it’s going to be all wholesome foods, homegrown or locally sourced ingredients and will leave you feeling full and comforted.

This comes at a cost of $56 per adult (as of writing this) and kiddies are free on request. Included in your stay however, is a serve-yourself breakfast spread, that includes fresh eggs straight from the chooks.

Note: The communal lodge kitchen has got everything you need for cooking. Big 12-seater table inside plus two outdoor tables for when it’s warm enough to eat outside.

Is Valley Views Glamping Family-Friendly?

Valley Views Glamping is perfect for little and not-so-little ones. There is one bed in each dome, but they are big enough to snuggle up with the whole family. And we absolutely encourage this during the colder seasons. There is so much for them to explore around the area, and if you’re lucky they may even be able to help with some egg collecting and get to see other farm animals. There are outdoor baths within the trees, so fun for a spa day or a swim. Kids of all ages are very welcome here, but it is also a great place for parents who are wanting a nice romantic getaway all to themselves.

Note: Most domes fit 2 adults + 2 kids. The super king beds are massive though, so if you’ve got a little one who wants to squeeze in with you, there’s definitely room. Portable cot available if you ask for one.

Valley Views Glamping Pricing: What Does It Cost?

Pricing will depend on the size of dome required to fit your family. Including breakfast, prices start from NZD $310 per night.

Additional costs to consider:

  • Home-cooked dinner: $56 per adult (children free on request)
  • Travel to Wanaka for dining: 1-hour drive each way

The breakfast is included in your stay rate and features a serve-yourself spread with fresh eggs straight from the chooks.

Getting There from Christchurch

Valley Views Glamping is approximately a 4-hour drive from Christchurch, making it the perfect weekend getaway destination. The journey takes you through some of New Zealand’s most stunning scenery, including the Canterbury Plains and Southern Alps. We’ve found the drive to be part of the experience itself – especially beautiful during autumn when the trees are changing colours. Plan for fuel stops along the way, and consider breaking up the journey with a stop in Geraldine or Fairlie to stretch your legs and grab a few snacks.
