Christchurch is Lighting Up Again: Illuminate Festival Returns This August

Looking for something bright to do this August? The Illuminate Light Festival is back in Christchurch for three dazzling weeks of after-dark fun in the beautiful Christchurch Botanic Gardens.

Thousands of twinkling lights. Interactive installations you can see, hear, touch and smell. A glow-up of epic proportions.

After a sellout run, this year’s event promises more sparkle, more surprises, and even more stuff to keep the whole whānau happy. Think brand new lighting features never seen before in Aotearoa, alongside carnival rides, face painting, tasty food trucks, and a bar area for the grown-ups.

Illuminate isn’t just a light show. It’s a full sensory experience designed to be inclusive for all ages and abilities. Whether you’re here to soak up the lights, let the kids run wild with wonder, or just stroll through the glowing gardens with a hot drink in hand, there’s something for everyone.
