What’s on for kids this weekend: japan fiesta

Japan Fiesta 2026

For one day, Riccarton Park becomes a lively hub celebrating Japanese culture, food and entertainment. Japan Fiesta is packed with things to explore, from cultural exhibitions and tea ceremonies to live performances and artist stalls. Families can wander through food vendors, catch giant-screen anime outdoors (yes, One Piece fans will be happy), and explore the indoor Hokkaido Fair which showcases Japan’s northern region. It is the kind of event where you might arrive for lunch and end up staying most of the afternoon.

UV Sports

If your kids enjoy a bit of action, UV Sports in Rolleston adds a glow-in-the-dark twist to classic games. Under ultraviolet lighting, participants jump into fast-paced rounds of dodgeball, pickleball and floorball, with plenty of mini games thrown in. Bright or white clothing is encouraged, especially with prizes up for grabs for the best glow-ready outfits. It is energetic, slightly chaotic and perfect for kids aged eight and up who love moving.

Westfield Riccarton Supercars Kids Craft

Little car enthusiasts can head to Westfield Riccarton for a hands-on craft session inspired by supercars. Selwyn Holi Festival of Colours

Selwyn Holi returns to Brookside Park with its joyful burst of colour, music and cultural celebration. Families gather dressed in clothes they do not mind transforming as clouds of bright powder fill the air. Alongside the famous colour throwing there will be food stalls, performances and plenty of space for kids to run around and enjoy the atmosphere. The colours are natural, non-toxic and designed to be safe for both kids and adults.
