What’s on for kids this weekend:

Ellesmere A&P Show
A proper country show with all the good stuff – farm animals, shearing, sideshows and more food than you could possibly eat in one day. Wander through the craft and retail stalls, watch the shearers do their thing, or take the kids to meet the baby animals in the farmyard (yes, including the famous live eel tank). Pony rides, face painting and the classic “Needle in the Haystack” game are all on offer, so there’s no shortage of fun.

Free Community Fun Day @ Falcon’s Nest
The Rolleston crew are throwing a community bash and everyone’s invited. Expect free pizza, prizes, face painting, bouncy castles and more good vibes than your average Saturday morning. Grab a coffee, let the kids run wild, and maybe even sneak in a free posture or mortgage check while you’re there.

Spring Fair – Richmond Community Garden
The Richmond crew know how to throw a proper neighbourhood fair. There’s a vintage market at Avebury, car boot sales, local vendors, eco workshops, and a mud kitchen for little explorers. The Repair Revolution will be fixing everything from zips to toasters, while Riverlution Café keeps everyone fuelled with coffee and ice cream. Expect live music, seedlings for sale, and plenty of good community energy.

Diwali: The Festival of Lights at Tūranga
Celebrate the colour, joy and sparkle of Diwali right in the heart of the city. Tūranga will be buzzing with dance performances, music and kids’ crafts celebrating the many cultures of India. It’s bright, warm, and a beautiful reminder that unity and light always win.

Twilight Run – McLeans Island Miniature Trains
There’s something special about trains at night, especially when the whole family can hop aboard. The team at Steam Scene will have their steam, diesel and electric trains running under the evening sky, with food trucks and hot drinks to keep everyone warm. It’s a night of whistles, steam, and wide-eyed kids loving every minute.

Governors Bay Fete
A local favourite that never disappoints. Think live music, garden stalls, handmade crafts, pottery, and a good dose of community charm. Kids can play games while the grown-ups browse plants and grab something delicious to eat. Bring a picnic blanket and settle in for a chilled-out Sunday.
