Storywalk @ the Library | Little River Domain


If you’re looking for a way to get out and about with the kids, check out this Storywalk event, where you can stretch your legs, soak up the sun, and enjoy a good tale. Christchurch City Libraries are hosting a walk where you’ll follow a librarian from page to page as a story unfolds right before your eyes. And yes, there’s crafting involved too, because why not add a little creativity to the mix? Perfect for buggies (so no one gets left behind!).

Compost Crew: Worm Wranglers Wanted!


It’s time to get your hands dirty in the best way possible! Richmond Community Garden is calling all future composting champions to learn how worms help break down food scraps. And you won’t just be learning—you’ll get to create your very own mini worm farm to take home! Bring the whole family for a hands-on, wiggly adventure that’s both fun and educational. And let’s be honest, who’s preschooler doesn’t love worms?

Quail Island Easter Egg Hunt

Quail Island Easter Egg Hunt


The Quail Island Easter Egg Hunt is here, and it’s bigger (and chocolatier) than ever! Hop on a ferry and head to the island to hunt for hidden letters that will reveal a secret word. Then, exchange it for Easter eggs and the chance to win one of three Akaroa Nature Cruises. The Easter Bunny will also be on hand to make sure things are extra egg-citing. And yes, adults get in on the action with kids’ prices!

When: Saturday, 12 April–Sunday, 27 April 2025, 10.30am–3pm

Medieval Family Day


Get ready for a day of knights, chainmail, and heavy fighting (no, really!). The Barony of Southron Gaard is bringing medieval life to the Te Ara Ātea Rolleston Library. Take part in demos, try on some armour, and maybe even have a go at creating your own chainmail. Plus, the whole family can revel in the arts and sciences of the medieval world. Sword fights optional, but chivalry is definitely required!

Hercules Open Days


Ever wondered what it’s like to stand next to a piece of aviation history? Well, here’s your chance. Come and check out the Lockheed C-130H Hercules, NZ7001, which served the RNZAF for an incredible 60 years. No bookings are required—just pop by and marvel at this extraordinary aircraft. And if you’re feeling extra generous, koha is welcome.

When: 11–15 April 2025, 10am–4pm

Hoon Hay Easter Scavenger Hunt


The Hoon Hay Easter Scavenger Hunt is back, and it’s the perfect chance to burn off some of that chocolate energy (and score some extra treats!). Bring a donation of food for the Hoon Hay Food Bank, and then dive into a day of outdoor games, an egg and spoon race, and of course, a scavenger hunt with a bounty of Easter goodies for the kids. This event runs rain or shine—though, if it’s wet, the games will be slightly modified so no one misses out.

When: Sunday, 13 April 2025, 1pm–3pm
