Costume lovers, this one’s for you. Malthouse Costumes is clearing out their overstock, which means plenty of quirky, niche, and last-season outfits at bargain prices. Whether you’re planning ahead for Book Week or just love a good dress-up box, it’s worth a look.

University of Canterbury Alumni and Community Picnic


A morning of free family fun with lawn games, face painting, bouncy castles, and live music. There’s a free sausage sizzle, candy floss, and Rollickin’ Gelato, so the kids will be happy—and probably covered in sugar. You don’t need to be a UC alum to join in, just turn up and enjoy.

bouncy castle fun day at kidsfest 2024

Fun HQ at Victoria Park


An inflatable wonderland with obstacle courses, mini golf, and pedal go-karts. Ten bucks gets kids unlimited bouncing, and The Snoman will be there serving up snow cones. It’s a solid way to burn off some energy without driving into the city. Cash or internet banking only, so come prepared.

Summer in the Styx 2025


A laid-back festival celebrating conservation and community. Expect food stalls, kayaking, guided walks, and games, all set in the beautiful Te Waoku Kahikatea Reserve. A great one for nature lovers and anyone keen to explore Christchurch’s backyard.
