From recycled bike bling and LEGO hunts to disco ice skating and a kids’ music gig that’ll have everyone singing about tomato sauce, we’ve rounded up the best kid-friendly events to get stuck into. Friday 28 June

Winter Wonderland Trail at the Gardens

Winter Wonderland Trail at the Gardens
The Botanic Gardens are looking a little more magical than usual. The self-guided Winter Wonderland trail is packed with activities inspired by Alice in Wonderland. Expect hat tossing, flamingo croquet, and the odd run-in with the Queen of Hearts. Don’t miss the Crafting Station near the playground on Fridays, open from 11am to 3pm.

When: Daily until 13 July, trail from 10am–4pm

Saturday 29 June

Children’s Craft – Rangiora
Need something chill to do before the Saturday chaos kicks off? Pop into Rangiora Library for water-themed crafts. No bookings, no fuss—just glue sticks, scissors, and a good excuse to keep small hands busy.

When: Saturday 29 June, 9am–5pm

ReCycled Creations – RAD Bikes & Envirokids
Old bike parts get a second life in this hands-on session with RAD Bikes. Kids can turn gears and spokes into funky keychains and cool treasures. There’s a bit of learning about sustainability thrown in too, but they’ll be too busy hammering away to notice.

Quirky Queens vs Perfect Princesses LEGO Hunt
It’s queens vs princesses at the Teece Museum, and there’s LEGO to find. Hunt down each minifig and discover who wins the fairytale face-off. A great rainy-day option with a twist of mischief.

Jeff Parsnips Album Release Show

Jeff Parsnips Album Release Show – Silly Songs for Silly Sausages
Tomato sauce on ice cream? Classic Jeff Parsnips. This one’s for the kids and the grown-ups. Jed Parsons brings his hilariously catchy alter ego to The Loons for a gig full of silly songs, big laughs, and toe-tapping fun. Don’t be surprised if you’re still humming about Weet-Bix and ketchup by Monday.

Sunday 30 June

Winter Festival Ice Skating Sessions
Disco lights, music, face painting, and polar bear skating aids? Sign us up. These Winter Festival skating sessions are great for all ages, whether you’re gliding gracefully or clinging to the sides. Choose from two sessions, and let the kids burn off some weekend energy.

When: Sunday 30 June, 10am–12pm or 2pm–4pm

Winter Wonderland Trail at the Gardens – Crafting Day
Back again today is the Botanic Gardens Crafting Station, so if you missed it during the week, now’s your chance. Grab a trail map and enjoy the games, puzzles and playful madness of the Alice-inspired walk while you’re there.

When: Sunday 30 June, 10am–4pm (Crafting Station 11am–3pm)
